"Adrift" -- line art in pen on paper (8.5" x 11"), scanned, then colored in Corel Painter on Wacom Intuos 3
This is my 5th submission for the Enchanted Visions Project. ("Adrift" is the theme for September 2010. ) Just like my other images, this one has a few of my favorite things -- cherry blossoms, the moon, and a mermaid. And of course, sparkles! Just kidding. ^^
When I was doing the conceptual doodles for this theme, as the final lines were getting set, I had come up with a story. A mermaid longed to see the cherry blossoms, but she didn't want to be seen by humans, so she came out of the water at night (on a moon swing, created by her magical powers, of course). The warm sakura-scented breeze is making her doze off and her hair is already completely dry and floating in the breeze with cherry petals. If she falls asleep and stays out too long, she'll turn into mist and can never go back to the sea... ^^
This one, like "What Dreams May Come", made me want to buy a larger scanner just so I can work on a larger paper.
Full view highly recommended as thumbnail or regular screen size is sure to blur the details.
Sorry for the annoying watermark. This piece is posted here ahead of the deadline at EVP and they generally suggest that we put one on. Maybe I'll remove it later after the deadline.
EDIT: Feb. 3, 2011 My multi-talented friend
has written a beautiful short story to go with this image. You can read it here
. I feel blessed to be given such a gift.
