"Circe" -- line art in pen on paper, digitally colored free handed using Corel Painter on Intuos 3 tablet.
Done for the December 2011 theme of the Enchanted Visions Project of the same title. Since I'm not a huge fan of Greek mythology, this particular prompt didn't give me an instant motivation and I sat around procrastinating.
Eventually, after a bit of research, I decided on the 'secret garden of Circe' angle -- a garden of toxic or other plants with pharmacological properties for her to make potions with for her 'spells'. In the image, the plants included are: belladonna (deadly nightshade), opium poppy, and hemp (faintly in the background).
She's also known to turn men into pigs and other animals with her magic, and I chose to depict her with a lion since it's easy to tell with the mane that it's a male. ^^ I hope the lion looks somewhat forlorn and definitely docile.
I made my Circe to look utterly unimpressed and bored, although certainly alert to any intruders to her domain. I like her eyebrows that say "Really...?" XD
I became a co-administrator of the Enchanted Visions Project in November. It's just a volunteer position, and all I do is just help out with questions on their Facebook page and their forum. They (the admin and Amy Brown who still oversees the project and occasionally participates in a monthly theme) let me select January 2012's theme. I picked "Dragon Lore", and I'm looking forward to getting started on that one soon.
