I like white flowers for several reasons. One, many of them are very fragrant. Two, their subtle colors in different lights are delight for me to try to capture. Three, there's nothing quite like white flowers for expressing "purity". So, all in all, this was a joy to draw and paint.
You can see I'm having a 'whiplash' experience from my previous silkworm moth fairy painting. I wanted this to be very pale and just a "whisper" of a picture, totally unlike the Indian Moth Fairy. Ethereal and vision-/apparition-like and if you move or say something, she'd disappear into thin air... (although the flowers presented here are relatively long-lasting).
I like the expression I ended up with on this particular image. She's definitely not smiling, but not looking overtly sad, either. I'd be interested in hearing what you get out of the mystery of her psychological state.
