Hybrid Tea - Sterling Silver

"Kuroshitsuji" fans, this is the "Sterling Silver" rose that was mentioned in the very first chapter of the manga. Althoug the kanji read "white rose", the furigana (the small hiragana that indicates how to read the kanji) clearly indicated "Sterling Silver". This brings back the memory of my utter confusion while I was working on the now-most-favorited-and-most-viewed "Sebastian -Raven Wings-". In the end, I went with a faded lavender tint for the rose he was holding.

Anyway, this is the yearling that I bought earlier this spring at a local Home Depot (of all places lol) that I planted in a large pot with good soil. I am basically baby-ing this plant especially the first year. (I live in the desert southwest, and trees and perennials easily take 2 to 3 years of careful monitoring before they can be considered well established.) This is the first bloom of the season, and I am delighted! The color of the rose is mauve/lavender with a hint of sepia that gives the rose an old-world nostalgia feel. Despite the delicately elegant looks, the scent of this rose has a surprising amount of citrus to the classic "tea rose" scent. The fragrance gives an almost youthful impression.

Although it is healthy and growing well, I will be watching "him" (My daughter has named it Ciel Phantomhive, so it's a boy now. lol) very closely for the rest of the season and beyond.
