"Moonlit Farewell" -- "Kaguya Hime 2 - final version" (about 10 hours in Corel Painter).
This is a gift art to very special *liralenli
for the gifting meme. Thank you for your support and friendship during this project (and many other "doodles" that I show here).
"Kaguya Hime 2" was a project that went quickly in the beginning and as my vision crystalized in my head, more and more details came forth and seemed to have slowed me towards the end. I feel I've accomplished my original goal of keeping her looking detached and ethereal, and coming up with original costuming ideas that hopefully live up to the vague description of "so beautiful and strange the likes of which nobody has seen before".
I've also played with a style that is new to me in this project, and I feel very good about that. I'm never been a person to stick with what works for me for too long. I like to challenge myself now and then, even just to see if I could come up with something I can be happy looking at.
This morning, I'm looking at her final version and I'm happy to be able to say, "Yes, I like her." The picture is intricate and filled with details throughout the figure, but the overall effect is, to me, not busy or overwhelming, and I don't get the feeling that the work is "trying too hard". But then again, it's my own impression, and I'd be naturally biased for it.
