"Romanza" -- A very special commission for the wonderful . Line art in pen on paper with digital coloring in Corel Painter on Intuos 3 tablet.
She asked for a fantasy image with a girl with curly brown hair, monarch butterflies, and red poppies. I sat down with a blank paper on my desk and this was the image that appeared in my mind. I changed things a little bit during the sketch phase to adjust the overall composition, which was mostly in the foreground poppies and the monarch up close.
I think many of us love the field of red poppies in paintings and photographs. There's something magical about that vision that's mesmerizing and totally enchanting. ^^ I was hoping to achieve a bit of nostalgia by starting this piece in an overall tone of light brown so that the whole thing will have the warm glow.
I usually don't have a story when I first start a project, but once the drawing is done and coloring begins, I start to get a story -- and a music to go with (Sometimes, the figures would start talking in my head. lol). I prefer that each viewer comes up with his/her own story though. There's more than enough going on in the image to get one's imagination rolling, I think.
EDIT: Since this piece is very special to me, I wrote up a walk-through (I generally don't like these things when they get too wordy, so I try to be pithy.), which is more detailed than my previous similar writings. It's found on my blogger.
I think that the butterflies wings will inspire my next nail art! This time the colour are really realistic! Excellent pic! You are a true artist, indeed I mentioned you on my Journal!
Cool! This was a commission for a dear friend and she was fairly specific as to what elements she wanted in the image, so I chose the colors that brought them all together most harmoniously. ^^ Awww, thank you so much. You're so sweet!!
