"Sometimes I Feel So Small" -- an entry to 's "Impaired" Lineart Contest for May 2009, which is a benefit event for Do1Thing.org, a charity organization for homelss and disadvantaged youth. For every entry, *color-me-club is donating $2 to the cause. So this contest is a win-win situation for line artists who want to participate.


I had a difficult time coming up with an image. Even after finally deciding on the theme, I had absolutely no experience doing any graffiti, so that required a bit of research. What I have here is something completely different from what I normally draw, but then again, this is for a contest entry with a definite theme, for which I felt challenged and a bit intimidated.

When I first read the contest rules at the beginning of May, I remembered it very clearly that the entries were supposed to either have the words "Do 1 Thing" (or the logo) or "do1thing.org" somewhere in the image. I had several ideas as to how I could incorporate that into my overall scheme, but I liked this idea the best, considering that it is a line art contest with the eventual use as an image for color artists to color.

I am not going to explain what the main figure in the image is feeling or what his/her life circumstance is. I would rather have the image speak for itself. Just like each artist would interpret the given theme in his/her own way, there are as many ways to interpret a given image as there are viewers.

I'm just glad I managed to finish this before the deadline. And if this image touches your heart in some way, that's all I could ask for.
