"The Green Faery" (final) -- line drawing in pen on paper, colored in Corel Painter on Intuos3 tablet.
My 4th work specifically for the Enchanted Visions Project
. A theme, in this case, "The Green Faery" was given, and contributing artists produce whatever strikes their fancy. This is my interpretation.
This one looks somewhat like one of my older colored pencil works (not on dA) from years ago, but the final look here has a touch of insanity. To me, the look of "empty shell" as if her soul has left her body, is more pronounced in the colored version than in the line art version. This is exactly what I had in mind -- I didn't want her to be friendly -- just aloof, like she is a plant herself with little or no human emotion.
I like spring and early summer as a season myself. I enjoy the immense energy of fresh growth seen and felt in nature during that time of the year, but I've also known some people with mental conditions who seem to get strangely affected... and not in a good way at all. It seems that my personal experience with them crept its way into this image. Chartreuse is exactly the color I would pick if I were asked to choose a color to represent "insanity". Most shades of greens are soothing, but chartreuse, to me, has that electrifying edge that seems barely under control and could go totally wrong at any moment.
