"Totoro with Bubbles" ("Up, up, and ... away!?")

Totoro is all about friendship, fun, family, kindness, thoughfulness, tenderness, adventure, dreams, etc. -- all the good things of childhood. It makes me feel good to draw them. This picture was no exception.

The medium totoro is getting the attention of the big one. The littlest one is going, "Um... what should I do, guys?"

I was looking at the Studio Ghibli logo of totoro's profile. The whole idea quickly developed from that. Interesting what can happen just by changing the eye's focus. Originally, this was going to be a joint doodle project with my daughter, but I couldn't stop at line drawing.... I'm bad. And I did realize that I drew the blue totoro's ears wrong!

When I was 4, was the first time I saw Totoro. I loved it! So my mom bought mne the movie. Then when Spirited Away came out, I loved that too. So my mom got me all three Totoros & the Spirited Away movie. When Howl's Moving Castle came out, I fell in love with that too! So I got the movie for my 5th birthday. Over the years, they stopped playing the Studio Ghibli movies on cable, so I forgot what happened in the movies. I had lost the movies at home, & Totoros were put away in my closet. When Hayou Miyazaki finally made Ponyo, I remebered my childhood favorite movie. So I asked my mom where the stuff was, I found the movies in a bin along with the three Totoros. So thank you for making this picture. It puts a smile on my face!!!
