"What Love Means To Me" -- an entry for "PAPER HEART Movie Poster" Contest hosted by dA.
My Friday Doodle Club piece for July 17th, 2009. About 3 1/2 hours in Painter - hand drawn from scratch on Intuos3 tablet. Just knew exactly what I wanted for the image, so it went pretty quickly. And of course, I just added text over the image in PaintShopPro. It really looks like a movie poster, doesn't it? It's funny how things would immediately look like a movie poster just by adding text in such a way...
If you asked me the question "What does love mean to you?", I would answer with "Family". I mean my own family that I've got as a result of marrying my husband and having a daughter (OK, so I'm not pregnant with a second child, and no, we don't have a dog, either. And a beach is mighty far away, too. lol), and not the family I was born into. Some people might think of this as a cliché, but there's nothing more meaningful to me than my own family in the whole world.
So, this piece is dedicated to my daughter and my husband. ^^
EDIT: Go check out the 25 finalists. [link] No finalist even comes close to describing "What Does Love Mean To You?" in their image, which was supposed to be the theme of the contest. The people who organize and run the contests on dA contradict themselves. You'll see a bunch of actual "paper hearts" in the finalists. It's as if the people who are judging are not paying attention to the rules of the contest and totally missing the point. I refrained to post my remarks on the news article because plenty of others have expressed exactly the same. And we are not saying it just because we're bitter because our entries weren't chosen. It's just that taking one look at the 25 finalists makes it obvious that "originality" is grossly lacking in the chosen pieces and one is also shown the utter disregard for the rules, or at the least, a very questionable interpretation of them. It is as if dA would put these nice-sounding themes just to be PC. Very disappointing. No question about it.
